Great first two acts then it nosedives.
The first half of the film is excellent comedy action, well performed throughout. Will Smith is on fine form as the titular hero and the comedy hits more than misses. Sadly the film has to go somewhere towards having a satisfying ending, I think the writers missed the mark as in the final act it degenerates into a generic super hero film. It wouldn't be so bad if the film wasn't off to such a good start, sadly when a film starts so well the only way is down. Five stars for the first two acts and one for the end.
An interesting take on the superhero genea.
Before see'ing the movie, i liked the idea of a down and out superhero with an attitude and an alcohol problem, and to a certain extent I thought it pulled it off. Its not a movie that I will watch again but it was entertaining enough for me to enjoy. At times it had me laughing without being too much of a comedy that it lightened the dramatic bits, overall they got the balance right. Will Smith is believable in the role and the supporting cast are good aswell. However, all things considered, I wouldnt go overboard in praising the film. It was enjoyable without being anything special ..... an above average film hence my score of 3 out of 5.
Superhero movie with a twist!
I actually quite liked this film! Expecting all the humour of Will Smith and everything that goes with him, but I think he's had his day cos the last few films haven't really been up to the standards of Independence day and Men In Black! Probably because he was new on the movie scene then?? Most people say it starts off well but turns a bit ridiculous half way through, but I think all the twists keep the film going but the end was somewhat a bit confusing and disappointing for me. In all a good watch, just think the plot was a bit weak and they ran out of ideas towards the end!
One of the best movies of the summer!
I suppose its all a matter of taste. It appears that people who have seen this movie fall into two distinct camps. I have to admit that I am a big Will Smith Fan and find him superbly entertaining no matter what he does (Wild Wild West excepted of course!) so that's a good start to proceedings. I am also a Jason Bateman fan and cannot fault the casting of Bateman here.
I agree it's not a complex plot, but the action is good, the effects are good and the acting superb (excepting Ms Theron of course). On top of that it delivers a little emotion (manages to make you care about the characters) and some 'good ole' feelgood factor (distinctly lacking elsewhere this summer).
Its a 12A with some adult language. I found this just about OK for my 11-year-old but I am not too sure about suitability for younger kids.
My kids and I really enjoyed it. Hope they make a sequel!
Hancock
Amazingly entertainment, shame it was no longer, but, non stop action and thrills!
It truly is the best action hero adventure EVER!
